Saturday 10th October – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods.

Foil – 18.41 knot max, 16.79 knot ave., 10.64 knot hour, 13.98 knot mile, 40.29 km.,14.24 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Bolt 5.75m.

After missing the last couple of breezy days, first our van was in the garage and secondly we have our lovely Granddaughter on Fridays I was keen to get out on the water today and with the wind in the west and high tide at midday Levington was the only option for me today! I was at the marina before nine as I thought it might busy with wingers and there was already loads of water with some lovely sunshine too so I quickly set up my foil board and took a chance with my 5.75 as it looked quite breeze and winger mate Ian headed out with a 3.50 wing. Sadly to start with I was way under powered, it looked a bit breezier towards Pin Mill so I headed up that way and did get flying in patches with a bit of a swell running down the river! The wind did seem to fill in so I sailed back to the corner and had three OK runs down to Felixstowe docks in much smoother water and I had it all to myself too apart from a few yachts:) I then beat back to the launch spot and had a few nice runs with some good gybing in the flat water each side before calling it a day, pack up, shower which was sadly cold and head for home just in time to go for a walk down to Felixstowe prom with Mag!
Then after tea I saw there was a red Aurora alert so I headed down to Felixstowe Ferry and meet fellow Northern Light watcher Jenna and although there was only a tinge of green in the sky my camera picked up red streaks!
